In 2002 the Government of Canada honoured me with a commission for 18 decorative wall plates to be official gifts for the G8 Summit held in Kananaskis, Alberta. Each delegate was presented with a plate ensconced in elegant, velvet-lined handmade wooden boxes, inscribed with the Canadian insignia.

The 41 cm (16 inch) diameter plates were decorated by pouring coloured glazes over a base light blue glaze to create an abstract mountain landscape – fitting for the Kananaskis setting where the summit was held. They were then fired to cone 10 (1304° C / 2380° F)

The eighteen recipients represented: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the UK and the USA (the G8), plus five African countries: Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa. The Presidents of the European Commission and the Council of the European Union (Spain), Secretary-General of the UN and the Governor General of Canada also received plates.
